Welcome to the Year 4 Class for Spring 2023 with Mrs Taylor and Mrs Dunsmuir, with Mrs Stevens-Ward on Maternity leave
In power maths this term the class will be working on multiplication and division skills.
The maths lessons will start with multiplication and division skills, such as multiplying a 2 and 3 digit number by a one digit number. Also, the class will divide numbers, some with a whole number as the answer and also ending with remainders.
In the measurement unit, the class will find areas of shapes by counting squares and also using multiplication skills.
Please keep practising times table skills in preparation for the government times table check and to support with the learning in Year 5 and beyond.
In Literacy lessons the new class book is, 'Stig of the Dump,' with a focus on narrative. The class will recreate scenes from the book and build on their reading skills.
Design and Technology
With a link to the class story of 'Stig of the Dump,' the class will learn about shelters and structures. They will explore the skills of making a model stronger and then finally make their own den at Suzie's wood.
History
The theme in History lessons is Stoneage times. The children will focus on Sara Brae and look at artefacts from the past and what they show us about life in that time era.
In art lessons the class will learn how to mix secondary and tertiary colours and then use this skill to create cave paintings.
In science the children will learn more about Sound.
