Cambridgeshire Maths Challenge 2017
On Wednesday 10th May, Finley, Joseph, Joe and Tyson represented Isleham Primary School in the Year 5 Cambridgeshire Maths Challenge. Miss Hunt and Mrs Staward met the boys at Ely St John’s Primary School, where the East Cambridgeshire heats took place. Twelve local schools competed in three round of challenging Maths questions. The first round was calculation and problem-solving, which involved quick fire mental calculations as well as more difficult reasoning questions. The second round was the visualisation round, which involved describing geometry, statistics and position and direction using mathematical vocabulary. The third round was the estimation round, which was a lot more difficult than it first seemed. This mainly consisted of measures, estimating without equipment! These questions would have given most adults a run for their money! Finley, Joseph, Joe and Tyson worked together as team to apply their Maths knowledge and understanding and we couldn’t be more impressed with how their represented our school. They even received a personal award for their reasoning and their mathematical discussions as a team. What a fantastic mathematical skill to be recognised for! Congratulations Finley, Joseph, Joe and Tyson, we are very proud of you!
