Design & Technology (DT)

We aim to inspire creativity, problem-solving, and innovation

At our school, Design & Technology (DT) gives children the opportunity to become imaginative thinkers and practical problem-solvers. Through a carefully planned curriculum, pupils learn how to design, make, and evaluate products that have real purpose and meaning in the world around them.

What children learn:

  • Designing: Pupils research, plan, and develop ideas, considering the needs of others and the function of their products.

  • Making: They work with a wide range of tools, materials, and modern technologies to bring their designs to life.

  • Evaluating: Children test and refine their creations, learning how to improve and adapt their work.

  • Technical knowledge: They gain understanding of structures, mechanisms, electrical systems, textiles, food technology, and digital design.

Skills for life

DT is more than just making things – it builds resilience, teamwork, and creativity. Children learn to take risks, solve problems, and think critically, preparing them for the challenges of an ever-changing world. These skills support future learning and open doors to careers in engineering, design, technology, and beyond.

Our approach

We follow the Kapow DT curriculum that ensures progression from Early Years through to Year 6, with each project building on prior knowledge. Lessons are practical, engaging, and linked to real-life contexts, helping children see the relevance of what they are learning.
