Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education
At our school, PSHE is a vital part of helping children grow into confident, healthy and responsible young citizens. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, valued and equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the world around them. Our PSHE curriculum supports every child’s personal development—emotionally, socially and morally—so they are well‑prepared for the opportunities and challenges of later life.
We follow the Cambridgeshire PSHE Programme to ensure that our teaching is accurate, age‑appropriate and consistent from Early Years through to Year 6. This scheme provides high‑quality, research‑informed resources that support pupils in developing essential life skills across a broad range of themes.
Each year group studies a series of carefully planned units covering:
Myself and My Relationships (emotions, friendships, anti‑bullying, managing change)
Healthy and Safer Lifestyles (personal safety, digital safety, healthy living, Relationships and Sex Education)
Citizenship (rules and responsibilities, diversity, communities, teamwork)
Economic Wellbeing (financial capability)
PSHE is taught by class teachers who know the children well and is delivered through engaging, interactive approaches such as discussion, storytelling, circle time, role‑play and collaborative tasks. Learning is further enriched through themed events (e.g. Anti‑Bullying Week, Safer Internet Day), assemblies, visits, visitors and real‑life experiences that help children make meaningful connections with the wider world.
Our curriculum also plays an important role in promoting safeguarding, wellbeing, equality, inclusion and British Values. Children learn to make safe choices, build healthy relationships, understand their rights and responsibilities, and show respect, empathy and resilience within a diverse community.
Sex Education
As part of our curriculum, aspects of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) are taught in an age‑appropriate way, following the Cambridgeshire scheme and in line with national guidance. While Relationships Education is statutory in primary schools, parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from the non‑statutory Sex Education elements of the PSHE curriculum. Any parent wishing to do so must put this request in writing to the Headteacher. We encourage parents to discuss any concerns with us beforehand so that we can provide clarity and support.
Parents are also able to view curriculum materials that are used to support teaching and learning by contacting their child's class teacher.
