Isleham's Wider Offer

Our Wider Curriculum and Enrichment Offer

At Isleham Church of England Primary School, we believe that education goes far beyond the classroom. Our wider curriculum and enrichment offer plays a vital role in developing confident, resilient and well‑rounded children who feel a strong sense of belonging, purpose and opportunity. We are committed to providing experiences that nurture talents, build character and support wellbeing, ensuring that every child can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

After‑School Clubs and Activities

We are proud to offer a wide range of after‑school clubs at no cost to parents and carers. These clubs give children the chance to explore interests, develop skills, try new activities and build friendships in a supportive environment. Our offer varies across the year and may include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Chess
  • Choir
  • Cricket
  • Netball
  • Summer games
  • Dodgeball
  • Cookery

By keeping clubs free of charge, we remove financial barriers and ensure all children have the opportunity to take part, regardless of background or circumstance. We are proud that children from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with SEND attend in line with their peers.

Pupil Leadership and Responsibility

We believe that responsibility builds confidence, independence and a strong sense of ownership within our school community. Every child is encouraged to apply for a role of responsibility during their time at Isleham, such as becoming a House Captain or joining groups like the Eco Council.

In Year 6, every child is given a responsibility, ensuring that all pupils experience leadership and service to others. These roles include:

  • House Captains
  • Sports Leaders
  • Tech Team
  • Librarians
  • Worship Leaders

These responsibilities help children develop leadership skills, teamwork, communication and confidence, preparing them well for secondary school and beyond.

Junior Travel Ambassadors

Our commitment to safe, active and responsible citizenship begins early. Six children in Year 5 take on the role of Junior Travel Ambassadors, supporting initiatives that promote safe and active travel to and from school. This role empowers pupils to lead by example, contribute to whole‑school initiatives and promote healthy, sustainable choices within the community.

Pastoral Support and Emotional Wellbeing

Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing is central to our wider offer. We provide a range of small group support opportunities for children who may benefit from additional nurture, guidance or connection.

This includes Young Carer groups, led by Mrs Norbury, which provide a safe and supportive space for children to share experiences, develop coping strategies and feel understood. These groups play an important role in helping children feel valued, heard and supported.

Inclusion and Access for All

Across all aspects of our wider curriculum, we work hard to ensure that every child can take part, regardless of background, need or personal circumstance. We are proactive in removing barriers to access by:

  • Keeping clubs and enrichment activities free
  • Offering encouragement and reassurance to children who may lack confidence
  • Sending personal invitations to pupils who may find participation difficult
  • Working closely with families to ensure children feel supported

Our aim is that no child misses out on opportunities to grow, succeed and belong.

Our Commitment

Through our wider curriculum, Isleham CE Primary School nurtures curiosity, responsibility, kindness and aspiration. These experiences strengthen our school community and help children discover who they are, what they enjoy and how they can make a positive difference, now and in the future.
