Careers Education at Isleham

Careers and Aspiration at Isleham

At Isleham, we believe that careers education starts early. We ensure every child develops the confidence, skills and ambition to succeed in their future.

What Makes our Approach Special?

We build skills for Life:

Through our curriculum, children develop:

  • Communication and Confidence
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Resilience and Independence
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making
We Raise Aspirations

We carefully choose:

  • Books that inspire ambition
  • Role models that challenge stereotypes
  • Curriculum topics that introduce children to new knoweldge, cultures and opportunities.
  • Lessons that connect learning to real life

We help children to understand that they can achieve in many different careers in many different places.

Bringing Employers into School

Children benefit from real-life visits and experiences such as visits from:

  • Police Officers
  • Healthcare Professionals
  • Scientists and STEM Experts
  • Local Leaders and Community Partners
  • Environmental Leaders (e.g. Local Beekeeper)
  • Writers, Authors and Illustrators

These help children:

  • Understand a range of different career pathways.
  • Share ideas and listen to opinions from a range of sources
  • Listen, respond and question thoughtfully and respectfully.
Focus on Communication

We teach children to:

  • Speak clearly and confidently
  • Share ideas, opinions and questions

We do this through discrete teaching on the physical, limguistic and social elements of talk and conversation. This learning starts right from Reception with a focus on positive interactions and back and forth conversation.

Key Messages

From Reception to Year 6, children:

  • Learn about the range of workplaces and the diverse nature of jobs in our local community and beyond.
  • Build confidence and independence to feel confident to take the opportunities that are presented to them.
  • Begin to think about their role in the world and what they may like to do in the future.
  • Feel confident to challenge assumptions and stereotypes through a belief that they can achieve in anything they want to do.
Our Commitment

At Isleham, we are committed to ensuring all children receieve the skills and knoweldge they need to feel ready for the next stages in their life and education.

We are proud to provide a rich, inspiring and creative curriulcum that broadens horizons to ensure every children is prepared for a successful future.
